How will the PocketWeather help me?

Whilst exploring the great outdoors, it is vital to be prepared and aware of upcoming weather conditions. PocketWeather continuously provides information on the expected weather in your area. It works, even where mobile and data services are limited or not available, which is crucial so you don’t get caught by any surprises. With this compact, lightweight, multi-functional device, you have weather, temperature, humidity, altitude, directional, and date and time information right at your fingertips, eliminating the need to carry around the extra weight of multiple tools.

How does it work?

With built in air pressure sensors, the device is able to detect and save atmospheric pressure changes. PocketWeather uses algorithms on this saved data to forecast weather conditions in the upcoming 12-24 hours. It also provides temperature and humidity trends for the next 12-14 hours.

How should I interpret the readings on the display?

PocketWeather’s display provides a great deal of valuable information so you can stay prepared whilst outdoors:

  • Atmospheric pressure is recorded and displayed in bar graph format to provide an air pressure history. The bar graph clearly indicates the trend in air pressure changes as the height of the bar suggests air pressure level and provides information on relative pressure changes over time.
  • Internal sensors determine how high you are from sea level based on air pressure readings and the current weather situation. The device displays your altitude in meters.
  • Temperature sensors detect temperatures in Celsius or Fahrenheit. Algorithms are used to calculate and display temperature trends in the upcoming 12-14 hours. The trend indicator arrow will point upwards if the temperature will rise, downwards if the temperature will decrease, and straight to show that temperatures will remain steady.
  • Humidity sensors detect humidity levels in the atmosphere. Algorithms are used to determine humidity trends for the next 12-14 hours. The trend indicator arrow will points upwards to indicate that humidity will rise, downwards to indicate that humidity will decrease, and straight to indicate that humidity will remain steady.
  • The compass helps to detect the direction in which you are facing: North/South/East/West. The red arrow will always point north. When using the compass, please keep the device away from any magnetic material or heavy metal. Metal, magnetic objects, or other electronic devices may interfere with the compass resulting in inaccurate readings.

How can I find altitude (air pressure) info?

We have created a video that shows how to find air pressure, which you can view on YouTube: https://youtu.be/Kj2Iuvpdqe4

Why should I perform initial altimeter set-up?

After battery installation, in order to use the device right away, a manual setting of your current local air pressure and current weather conditions is required so that the device has a basis from which to accurately display altitude and forecast upcoming weather conditions.

If you do not need to use the device immediately, leave the device for 10-12 hours during which the device will automatically detect current local air pressure and altitude using its internal pressure sensors.

Why do I need to find local air pressure in order to set my initial altimeter setting?

Altitude can be determined based on the measurement of atmospheric pressure and weather conditions. The greater the altitude, the lower the pressure. After this initial set-up, the device will automatically calculate and adjust altitude based on the entered base value air pressure reading.

Why is the device showing the rain icon when it’s currently sunny?

It is important to note that the device does not display current weather conditions. It provides the weather condition of the upcoming 12-24 hours.
